Tour berths reallocated

November 10, 2020

Curl BC has made the difficult decision to suspend the allocation of BC championship berths through the BC Curling Tours and Provincial Team Ranking System (PTRS).

It was previously planned that the top men’s team and the top women’s team on the PTRS list and the top two BC Curling Tour teams of each gender as determined by points accrued up until Dec. 7 would receive direct entries into the 2021 BC Men’s and 2021 Scotties BC Championships.

However, because travel into and out of the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley is being limited to essential travel only  from Nov. 7 to Nov. 23, it means there is no longer equal opportunity for teams across the province to take part in the tour. The rule had been that teams must compete in at least 2 events in order for their points to count towards a berth.

The PTRS and the two BC Curling Tour berths will be reallocated to the regional events for the men’s category. This will be done based on the pro-ration of entries.

For the women, two additional berths will be allocated to open event #1 and one additional berth will be allocated to open event #2.

The BC Curling Tour events are still scheduled to take place in Penticton, Kelowna and other clubs across BC this season. However, the results will not count towards a BC championship berth.

Curl BC would like to take this opportunity to remind teams competing that they are required to follow the rules for modified 4 person curling anytime they are curling in BC.

This means you must be physically distant from your teammates and your opposition at all times.
