The race is on to secure the top spot on the BC Curling Tours, with all categories in the mix this weekend (Oct. 11-14).

The Abbotsford Driving Force Cashspiel will see the best men’s and women’s teams in BC, along with some international competition, compete for CTRS and BC Curling Tour points. The event gets underway at Abbotsford Curling Club from tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 11) to Sunday (Oct. 13). Several games will be livestreamed on the Curl BC YouTube Channel.

At the same time the Golden Ears Junior Cashspiel goes ahead at Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge. The best junior men’s and junior women’s teams will be in action vying for a the top spot on the BC Junior Curling Tour. The junior event runs from Saturday, Oct. 12 to Monday, Oct. 14. Scores will be updated on the World Curling Tour site.

The top teams on the tour will earn berths to the BC championships.

On the Women’s tour, Team Brown from Kamloops and Team Wark from Abbotsford are currently tied in the top spot. Team Thompson from Kamloops is placed in a close third, with Team Daniels from Delta Thistle not far behind.

On the Men’s tour, Team Cotter from Vernon is just edging out Team Tardi from Langley with 31.549 points compared with 31.137 points. Team Tardi heads to the Canada Inns Curling Classic in Portage Le Prairie this weekend, while Team Cotter will be in Abbotsford.

Team Sato tops the junior men’s rankings and Team Daniels’ junior team tops the junior women’s rankings.

Last year’s BC Curling Tour winners were Team Geall from Abbotsford (men’s), Team Brown from Kamloops (women’s), Team Tardi from Langley/Victoria (junior men’s) and Team Daniels from Delta (junior women’s).

The BC Curling Tours have been funded in part by a grant from viaSport BC and the Province of British Columbia.

In order to ensure that participating and prospective teams have easy access to information about the tours, a website was created specifically for the BC Curling Tours. This website (www.bccurlingtours.com) contains event information and a registration form. Standings are updated on the page after each event.

The next events on the men’s and women’s tours will be the Kamloops Crown of Curling from Oct. 25-27 and the Kelowna Sunset Ranch/Raymond James Double Cash Nov. 9-11. The men will also be in action in Penticton for the Ashley Home Store Classic from Nov. 22-25.

The junior tour continues in Vernon next weekend with the Rick Cotter Memorial Cashspiel, which will be streamed on the Curl BC YouTube channel. The event runs from Oct. 18-20. The Kamloops Junior Cashspiel is scheduled for Nov. 1 to 3. The Esquimalt Optimist Cashpiel is the last event on the junior tour and takes place Nov. 9-11.
