Curl BC Awards

Curl BC Annual Awards are intended to recognize and honour individuals, teams and businesses for their outstanding contribution to the sport of curling in British Columbia.

We encourage all curlers to submit nominations for Annual Awards. The deadline annually is March 31.

Adult Team of the Year

Introduced in the 2017-2018 season, the Adult Team of the Year Award replaces the individual Adult Male and Female Curler of the Year, and the Junior Male and Junior Female Curler of the Year Awards. Team nominations can be made in one or more categories. Team accomplishments are limited to Curl BC recognized events in the most recently completed curling season, and at the provincial, national, and international level.

U21 Team of the Year

Introduced in the 2017-2018 season, and replacing the Junior Adult Male and Junior Adult Female Curler of the Year, the U21 Adult Team of the Year recognizes the accomplishments of the best U21 teams in BC. ALL team members must be under 21 years of age as defined by Curling Canada rules and regulations in the most recently completed curling season as of the deadline for nominations. Team accomplishments are also limited to the most recently completed curling season as of the deadline for nominations.

50+ Team of the Year

Introduced in the 2017-2018 season, and replacing the Masters Team/Curler of the Year Award, the 50+ Adult Team of the Year recognizes the accomplishments of the best 50+ Adult teams in BC. ALL team members must be over 50 years of age as defined by Curling Canada rules and regulations in the most recently completed curling season as of the deadline for nominations. Team accomplishments are also limited to the most recently completed curling season as of the deadline for nominations.

Adaptive Athlete/Team of the Year

The Adaptive Athlete/Team of the Year Award is presented to an athlete and/or team that is eligible to compete in BC and Canadian Championships, Paralympics, and Special Olympics events, as well as athletes and teams that have recognized disabilities. Accomplishments are limited to Curl BC recognized events in the most recently completed curling season, and at the provincial, national, and international level.

Coach of the Year (Anita Cochrane Award)

Accomplishments are limited to those achieved in the previous season and must be in events recognized by Curl BC; Must have at least an NCCP Competition Coach Certification (old Level 2); endorsement by the Performance Committee and Provincial Coach will be sought prior to consideration. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.

Sponsor Award

Recognizing the generosity of a sponsor towards curling; sponsorship may be for a single event, series of events, a program or for continuous sponsorship over a number of years; must be for an event or program recognized by Curl BC.

Curling Centre of the Year

Awarded to a member facility that has generously contributed to the sport of curling through hosting multiple competitions or events, either over the past year or over multiple years; and/or, has developed or operated outstanding curling programs; and/or, had multiples teams experience success at the provincial, national or international level in the past curling season and has demonstrated support for those teams as they advanced; must be endorsed by a Regional Representative from the member facility’s region.

Club Volunteer Award

To recognize the outstanding contribution of an individual club member to his or her curling club that sets him or her apart from all other volunteers at the club level around the province; must clearly represent exceptional service to the club. Administrator of the Year (Ron Houston Award)

This award was established in June 2016 in order to recognize contributions to curling in general, the growth of curling in our province, or advancements or innovations to curling by a person who receives remuneration for the work that they do in curling (for example Club Manager, Ice Technician, or Association employee).

To an individual who represents the spirit of volunteerism and whose outstanding dedication energy and commitment is critical to curling development and the advancement of curling in BC, and who has set an example of service for other volunteers. Long Service Volunteer: Pat Kennedy Award

Judie Roberts Friendship Award

Judie Roberts was a true friend of curling. The Life Member of Curl BC freely volunteered her time in various capacities in various communities in BC for more than 30 years. Named in her honour in 2017, the Judie Roberts Friendship Award is presented to a person or organization that has performed exceptional service to benefit curling in BC. The recipient is a friend to the sport of curling in any capacity but is not eligible for other Curl BC awards and may or may not be a member of a Curl BC partnership group.

Historic Awards

Team of the Year:

May be awarded to a team of any age, gender or competition category; accomplishments are limited to those achieved in the previous season and must be in events recognized by Curl BC; team must have competed at the national or international level or have shown outstanding achievement at the provincial level; endorsement by the Performance Committee and Provincial Coach will be sought prior to consideration. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.

May be awarded to a male or female individual master curler or a master team (60+ years of age); accomplishments are limited to those achieved in the previous season and must be in events recognized by Curl BC; team must have competed at the national or international level or have shown outstanding achievement at the provincial level; endorsement by the Performance Committee and Provincial Coach will be sought prior to consideration. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.

Club Customer Service Award:

Awarded to a member facility that has demonstrated outstanding service to its members, commercial leagues or a recognized Curl BC partner by providing customer service that sets it apart from other clubs over the past year or over multiple years; and/or has demonstrated exceptional growth in membership or active curlers in the previous years or over multiple years through innovative development or customer service programs.

Nominations for the Club Customer Service Award should be made via the Curling Centre of the Year nomination form and please highlight customer service activities.

Association Volunteer Award:

This award, for PCCA, BCLCA and BCICA volunteers, is no longer given out following the amalgamation to create the new Curl BC in August 2004. It recognized achievements or contributions in previous curling seasons that set the individual apart from others.
