Celebrating Legacy and Supporting Clubs – CEO Message

June 29, 2025

I hope you are all enjoying a nice start to your summer. On behalf of Curl BC’s Board and staff, we’re very pleased to announce the formal launch of two programs we’ve been working on for some time:

  • Jim Schuman Curling Club Assistance Program
    • Named in memory of the wonderful volunteer leader of the Pacific International Cup for 20 years, Jim Schuman, the Curling Club Assistance Program provides Curl BC member facilities in urgent need of financial assistance with access to a short term loan of up to $10,000. Click here to read more.
    • If you would like to contribute to this fund in Jim’s memory, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at sbraley@curlbc.ca, or Curl BC’s Chair, Lyle Sieg, at lsieg@curlbc.ca. We would be delighted to facilitate you receiving a tax receipt for helping to expand the scope of this crucial program.
  • BC Curling Hall of Fame
    • As announced at the recent Business of Curling Symposium held at Kelowna Curling Club, the BC Curling Hall of Fame has been officially established. The inaugural class includes 76 players, coaches and builders who, as representatives of BC, have already been inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Curling Hall of Fame, Canadian Sports Hall of Fame or World Curling Hall of Fame.
    • Plans are also underway to establish an electronic network of Curl BC Member Facilities interested in featuring pictures of historical curling artifacts, materials or memorabilia located at their club. Please let us know if your club is interested in being included.
    • Click here for more information, including a list of the inaugural inductees.

While the ice is out at most facilities, we’re very pleased that Kelowna Curling Club is once playing host to the Rockslide Youth Camp (featuring a record 108 athletes!) and Rockslide Coaches’ Camp from July 7th to 10th. Celebrity coaches Niklas Edin from Sweden and Bendik Ramsfjell from Norway join a team of 10 BC coaches led by Curl BC’s Paul Cseke. Curl BC’s Coach Facilitator, Chris Summers, is heading up the Coaches’ Camp. We hope everyone has a great time improving their game and establishing new friendships.

Have a great summer and we look forward to working with you again in September.
