Bonspiels are Back!

September 29, 2021

If there’s one thing all curlers love, it’s a good bonspiel. We’ve been without them for far too long now, but the good news is that they’re back- and in a big way! Have a look at the Curl BC Events Calendar to find one near you: https://www.curlbc.ca/events-results.

Here are a couple of accounts of recent spiels to help kick off the 2021-22 season:

The Chilliwack Curling Club Summer Bonspiel went off without a hitch, with 32 teams participating in pool play curling 5 games over the three days.

We had live acoustic music both Friday and Saturday night, and while dancing was not allowed due to COVID-19 the music was enjoyed by all and the bar was almost like normal. It was very nice to have people on the ice, in the restaurant and upstairs in the lounge again.

We plan to make this an annual event the weekend before Labour day and with promotion we hope to see 40 + teams like all of our other club bonspiels. There’s always a big bang for your buck in the ‘Wack!

Bruce Renwick, Manager – Chilliwack Curling Club

The Golden Ears Winter Club Summer Bonspiel was a huge success, it was so amazing seeing teams out curling again, all sheets were humming for the entire weekend.

We stuck with our traditional theme of FUN on and off the ice, where we create opportunities to win throughout the club.Teams seem to enjoy this, and it not only rewards you for good play on the cold side of the glass, but also showcases your ability to work as a team on the warm side of the glass.

We also pride ourselves in filling the bellies of our participants, with dinner offered on both Friday and Saturday, and lunch on Sunday.

Many of our competitors pulled their RV trailers up to the event, utilizing the Albion Fair Grounds across the parking lot as their home base during the weekend. It created created a cool camping experience for those in attendance.

We are so happy with getting out of the gates with our annual Summer Spiel, it felt great to be back at it!
