BC Teams rock Red Deer at the Vesta Energy Curling Classic
Last weekend, Red Deer, AB hosted the Vesta Energy Curling Classic, providing plenty of curling thrills – not to mention some hard-fought games for six BC teams.
On the men’s side there were two BC teams, Team Tyler Tardi and Team Sebastien Robillard. Both won and lost 2 games early in the event, setting them up to play one another in the C event semi-final on Sunday afternoon. In a close game, Team Tardi defeated Team Robillard in C semi-final 8-5 by scoring 2 in the 8th end. In the C event final, team Tardi looked to be in control until they gave up a steal of 1 in the 7th and were unable to convert the deuce in 8 with the hammer. This meant the pod would eventually bow out of the game to team Colton Flasch, of Saskatoon, when he scored 1 in an extra end.
On the women’s side we had four BC teams travelling outside of the province in search of CTRS points on the World Curling Tour’s Gold Trail: Team Mary Anne Arsenault, Team Corryn Brown, Teamy Kayla MacMillan, and Team Brette Richards.
While Team Arsenault lost 3 straight, Team Richards went 1-3, and Team Macmillan dropped two but went onto win 3 in a row before losing to Mackenzie Zacharias in the C qualifier.
BC’s current # 1 seed on the Canadian Team Ranking System Standing, Team Brown, were able to defeat Kayla Skrlik in the C event final to squeak into the quarter finals, but would lose 6-5 to Team Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan.
