BC Curling Tour, BC championship berth criteria amended to align with World Curling Team Ranking System
Curl BC today announced that changes have been made to the 2021-22 Curl BC category specific rules, specifically in the women’s and men’s categories.
This is due, primarily, to a recent reduction by the World Curling Federation in the number of events used for calculating World Curling Team Rankings (WCTR), the system used to determine direct entries at the BC women’s and men’s championships. A reduced number of women’s events on the BC Curling Tour this year also impacted the decision, after low participation in tour events in Trail, Kamloops, and Dawson Creek caused those events to be ineligible for WCTR system points.
As a result, the minimums and maximums for the BC Curling Tour berths will be reduced from 3 events to a minimum of 1 event, maximum 4 events for women. For men, it will go from 3 events to a minimum 2 events and maximum of 4. This should not dramatically change the number of berths allocated.
This now brings the BC Curling Tour in line with the WCTR system for maximum number of events, and provides an incentive for teams to play in BC events with the BC championship berth on the line.
