2025 BoC Symposium & AGM Recap – CEO Message

What a great weekend we just had at the 2025 Business of Curling Symposium in Kelowna! Lots of great speakers providing advice on how to better brand curling in each community and an overview of the latest trends in managing curling facilities. 50 people attended for 3 days at the Kelowna Curling Club including Curling Canada Board and staff members, Curl BC Board and staff members and representatives from 18 clubs. A big thank you to Bobby Ray of Curling Canada and Gavin Johnson of Curl BC for all their work on putting the Symposium together. Thanks as well to Curl BC sponsors belairdirect insurance and Original 16 beer for supporting the event.
A special feature on the Saturday night was the announcement of Curl BC’s Annual Awards and then the presentation of the inaugural class of the BC Curling Hall of Fame. 65 members of the BC Curling community who had previously been inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Curling Hall of Fame, Canadian Sports Hall of Fame or World Curling Hall of Fame were included. Plans call for up to 7 additional inductees each year beginning in 2026.
The day prior to the Symposium, Curl BC held its AGM by Zoom with 60 people in attendance. Congratulations and thank you to Brenda Sims of Brackendale and Blake Fizzard of Victoria who were elected to 3-year terms on Curl BC’s Board and to Greg Graham of Coquitlam for accepting a 1-year appointment. The membership determined by Special Resolution that Board terms would be reduced to 2 years beginning in 2026 to make it easier to recruit candidates.
Welcome back to Logan Lake Curling Club, located 50 km north of Merritt, which has rejoined Curl BC after a 15-year absence. We look forward to hosting an Ice Technician course at your club in the Fall!
I hope everyone’s summer is off to an early start with the great weather. We hope you have a great off season and look forward to working with you again in the Fall.
