2023 Open Qualifiers – Cseke, Fenton, Deng & Bowles Qualify

December 17, 2023

After some fierce battles at the 2023 BC Men’s and Women’s Open Qualifiers at the Cloverdale Curling Club from December 15-17, Teams Cseke, Fenton, Deng and Bowles have successfully punched their tickets to the 2024 BC Men’s Championship and the 2024 Scotties BC Women’s Championship, presented by Best Western.

In the Men’s Open Qualifiers, Team Cseke performed steadily throughout the weekend and won 3 straight games to clinch the A Qualifier. “We are feeling rejuvenated. It’s perfect timing to roll into our home provincials. It will be one of the most special provincials because of friends, family, colleagues, sponsors who will be there supporting us,” said Corey Chester.

Team Fenton fell to Team Craig in the A Qualifier semi-final, but fought back and beat the same team in the B Qualifier Final. “We wanna play with the big boys. We wanna scare some people. We’re really excited to go play in Esquimalt,” said Adam Fenton.

Team Deng took the long route, but finished strong in the C Qualifier until the very last end. “I had faith in the boys, we powered through and got it done in the end.” said Daniel Deng.

In the Women’s competition, Team Bowles won both games in the round-robin and beat Team Wark in the final to secure their qualification. “It’ll be a great introduction for us, as we are going into Women’s next year. It will set us up well for the Juniors as well,” said Emily Bowles.

Thank you all for participating in this year’s Open Qualifiers, and special mention to the Cloverdale Curling Club for hosting and providing excellent ice conditions for the curlers!

We now look forward to the 2024 BC Men’s, Women’s & Wheelchair Curling Championships in January.
