Tim Smith and Chris Pieper win 2019 BC Open Stick Championship

The 2019 BC Open Stick Curling Championship was held in Chase over the weekend of February 16 to 17. Sixteen two-person teams competed in a four division round robin. Teams hailed from Armstrong, Prince George, Salmon Arm, Enderby, Vernon and Chase.

The semifinals were held on the Sunday morning with Tim Smith and Chris Pieper (Armstrong) curling against Don Price and John Vaughan (Chase) in one semifinal and Derrell Sears and John Campbell (Armstrong) curling against Dwight Barna and J. Kratchmer (Enderby) in the other.

Based on the results of the semifinals and ends won, fourth place went to Price and Vaughan and third place went to Barna and Kratchmer. The other two teams went on to the finals in the afternoon.

The final game between the two Armstrong teams was close and interesting. Smith and Pieper scored one point in the first end, with Sears and Campbell scoring one in the second end. The remainder of the regular ends were blanks.

The first extra end also came up blank, so an eighth end was played. Smith and Pieper managed to sit four rocks and won the game 5-1.

Congratulations to Smith and Pieper on their win and thank you to all the teams that participated.
