Teams Hope to win berth for BC Scotties

Women’s curling teams are descending on Hope for the opportunity to become champions of BC.

The first open playdowns are taking place at Hope Curling Club this weekend (Dec. 8-10).

Spectators are welcome to attend to see some of the best women curlers in BC on their way to the 2018 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western, taking place Jan. 2-7 at Victoria Curling Club. Draws for the playdowns at Hope Curling Club start on Dec. 8 and end on Dec. 10. You can follow the schedule and scores at http://playdowns.curlbc.ca.

Rebecca Connop Price, Communications and Marketing Manager at Curl BC, said: “If you live in the Fraser Valley, this is a great opportunity to see some of the province’s best women curlers as they prepare for the BC Scotties.”

And if you have a women’s curling team, there is still one more opportunity to enter playdowns. The second open event takes place at Kelowna Curling Club starting on Dec. 15, 2017. But teams need to hurry, the registration deadline is Dec. 10.

Shannon Joanisse, Curl BC’s High Performance and Competitions Manager, says: “Whether this is your first time competing to earn a berth to provincials or you’re a seasoned competitor, this is a great time to think about signing your team up. This could be your year!”

The cost of entering playdowns is about $100 per player, which gives you the chance to play in a BC championship with the best in the province. It also gives you the chance to win prize money, ranging from $800 for first place to $400 for third place.

The 2018 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western, takes place Jan. 2-7 at Victoria Curling Club. The teams will face off to take part in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian Women’s Curling Championship, which will also take place in BC – in Penticton from Jan. 27 to Feb. 4.

If you have any questions about entering playdowns, please contact Shannon Joanisse, Curl BC’s High Performance and Competitions Manager, at 604-333-3619 or sjoanisse@curlbc.ca.
