Peter Muir, Janice Mori re-elected, Keith Switzer elected to Curl BC Board

Peter Muir of Port Moody and Janice Mori of Coldstream have been re-elected to sit on the Curl BC Board as Governors at Large for two year terms and Keith Switzer of Vancouver has been elected to a one year term.

Curl BC membership voted Peter, Janice and Keith in at the AGM on Sunday June 17, which took place in Burnaby at Fortius Sport & Health.

Peter has served as the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee and has played a significant role in helping curling clubs transition to the new Societies Act. He has previously served as a Regional Representative and regularly volunteers at his local curling clubs, as well as with City of Port Moody Elections, Elections BC and Elections Canada.

“I look forward to working with the Curl BC Board on the implementation of the new 2020 vision to ensure that our values of integrity, respect, excellence, family, commitment and transparency continue to be at the forefront,” said Peter. “Over the next year, I hope to meet and work with our curling family – club and competitive curlers, curling facilities throughout BC and Curling Canada.”

Janice has experience in a variety of areas within the curling community. She has worked as a club manager and is certified in coaching, officiating, and ice making. Janice regularly volunteers with organizations in her community and has held various positions with the BC Ladies Curling Association and Curl BC.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with our curling centres, our Curl BC Board and staff, and our volunteers in bringing Vision 2020 to life,” said Janice. “[I’m also looking forward to continuing] the awareness and importance of building the Curl BC Endowment Fund as a step in long term stability for our great sport.”

Keith has a long history of playing competitively in BC. A long time member of Vancouver Curling Club (VCC), he served for 22 years on VCC’s Board and many more years on specific committees. He has also worked as the VCC Rep to the Olympic Facilities Design and was the Co-Chair of the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships and World Wheelchair Curling Championship organizing committee.

“I believe I can harness [my] experience and contribute to the continued growth and positive evolution of curling in BC for the benefit of all curlers and their member clubs,” said Keith. “As a new member of the Board, I expect to spend time gathering a full understanding of the strategic direction in place, general operations, and identified priorities for the immediate future … I know the Board and staff will be helping to pave the way and I am looking forward to the experience.”

Following the AGM, the Board members elected Peter Muir as the Chair. Janice Mori was elected as a Vice Chair and Teri Palynchuk was re-elected as a Vice Chair. Paul Addison will serve as the Past Chair.

Curl BC would like to thank the two outgoing Board members, Michelle Ramsay and Terry Vandale, for the great work they have done to grow curling in BC.
