Mallett through to final

Marla Mallet and her Royal City squad is through to Sunday’s final of the 2012 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship presented by Best Western.

Mallett faced reigning BC champion Kelly Scott in the Page Playoff 1 vs. 2 game tonight where the two teams exchanged singles for the majority of the match. Scott trailed near the end of the game heading into the final end down one without last rock, but put the pressure on lying 3 guarded stones upon the finish of her last stone. Mallett attempted a through the port draw to the button, but slide a few inches too far leaving Scott counting one which forced an extra end. The Scott rink couldn’t re-create the pressure a second time however, and left an open hit for a Mallett victory. Scott will now drop to the second semi-final tomorrow night at 6pm on Shaw TV.

Scott awaits the winner of tomorrow morning’s quarter-final between Roselyn Craig & Kelley Law. Law advanced today after surviving two tie-breakers against Marilou Richter in the afternoon and Jen Rusnell tonight.

Scott has lost the 1 vs. 2 page playoff game in the previous two BC women’s championships. Both times, she has gone on to win the event.
