Mission Statement

The Curl BC High Performance and Development Program creates a foundation for dedicated and committed curling athletes in their pursuit of excellence and podium performances.  The program promotes best practices by accessing world-class coaching resources and integrated support teams.

2017-18

Curl BC is now accepting TEAM (only) applications for the upcoming 2017-18 High Performance (HP) Program.  There will be two levels of programming – High Performance Elite/Next Generation (HPE/NG) and High Performance Development (HPD).

We fully understand there are some challenges that teams face when creating a culture of excellence. These include time, money, resources, coaching and ice availability.   However, the time is now for teams to showcase their commitment, determination and dedication to curling by empowering each other.

There has been a significant shift in sport and what performance components are required to reach the podium at the national stage.  In collaboration with Curling Canada, viaSport and Canadian Sport Institute (who are all major players in Curl BC’s HP and funding deliverables), Curl BC continues to follow suit and raise the bar with its overall programming and initiatives.

The Program is designed by the Provincial Coach & HP Director Melissa K. Soligo, Educational Manager & HP Development Coach Will Sutton and HP Manager Shannon Aleksic.  This year, all teams in the HPE/NG and HPD program will be under the guidance and management of Melissa.  The W/C and Mixed Doubles Program will be managed by Will.  Teams can access Melissa, Will, Shannon, Curl BC Consultant coaches and Curl BC’s Integrated Support Team (IST) specialists through the program.  We are available to work with all teams as requested.

Curl BC is excited about this new undertaking and we want to partner with teams committed to achieving excellence.  More importantly, we want to affiliate with teams who are willing to invest in themselves.  In order to be the best, teams must be willing to train and compete at the same level or higher than the top teams in Canada.  In order for BC athletes to reach the national podium, teams need to continue to do what the top 3 teams on the CTRS are doing:

The top 3 CTRS teams:

  • Invest in their own performance and training
  • Daily training environments
  • Focus on physical training
  • Access ice in the off season
  • Play in multiple out of province events with a strong strength of field multiplier (SFM)
  • Schedule multiple individual and team training sessions each week
  • Develop a training strategy for sport science and sport medicine support
  • Train systematically
  • Commit to excellence and performance in all areas

We look forward to working with our high performance and development BC athletes.

Melissa, Will and Shannon
