One House, Great Delivery

About The HP Program

High Performance focuses on system alignment and delivery of training programs to assist athletes through each stage of the LTAD as athletes strive to compete at the national and international level.

This is achieved through extensive training year-round utilizing the expertise of sport science to continuously improve knowledge and the application of: Mental Preparation, Physical Preparation, Team Dynamics, Technical Expertise, Game Plan Preparation, Goal Setting, Season Planning, Strategy and Nutrition.

Mission Statement

The Curl BC High Performance and Development Program creates a foundation for dedicated and committed curling athletes in their pursuit of excellence and podium performances.  The program promotes best practices by accessing world-class coaching resources and integrated support teams.

New for 2016-17

Curl BC is now accepting TEAM (only) applications for the 2016-17 High Performance (HP) Program.

There will be two targeted tiers in the HP Program and one Podium Pathway Training Program: Tier 1 – up to 4 Adult Teams, Tier 1A – up to 4 adult teams, Tier 2 – up to 4 – U21 teams, and up to 6 – Podium Pathway teams (striving for excellence in the next few years). We will also be accepting up to 2 teams in the Wheelchair and Mixed Doubles categories.

We fully understand there are some challenges that teams face when creating a culture of excellence. These include time, money, resources, coaching and ice availability. However, the time is now for teams to showcase their commitment, determination and dedication to curling by empowering each other.

There has been a significant shift in sport and what performance components are required to reach the podium at the national stage. In collaboration with Curling Canada, viaSport and Canadian Sport Institute (who are all major players in Curl BC’s HP and funding deliverables), Curl BC has decided to follow suit and make some exciting changes in its overall programming.

The Program is designed by the Provincial Coach & HP Director Melissa K. Soligo, Educational Manager & HP Development Coach Will Sutton and HP Manager Shannon Aleksic. The program will be led by Melissa, Will, Curl BC Consultant coaches and Curl BC’s Integrated Support Team (IST) specialists.

Curl BC is excited about this new undertaking and we want to partner with teams committed to achieving excellence. More importantly, we want to affiliate with teams who are willing to invest in themselves. In order to be the best, teams must be willing to train and compete at the same level or higher than the top teams in Canada. If we compare what some of our top teams in BC are doing to the top 3 teams on the CTRS, there really is no comparison.

The top 3 CTRS teams:

  • Invest in their own performance and training
  • Focus on physical training
  • Access ice in the off season
  • Play in multiple out of province events with a strong strength of field multiplier (SFM)
  • Schedule multiple individual and team training sessions each week
  • Develop a training strategy for sport science and sport medicine support
  • Train systematically
  • Commit to excellence and performance in all areas

We look forward to working with our high performance and development BC athletes.

Melissa, Will and Shannon
