Daniels, Meister team up to win BC Mixed Doubles championships

A second chance was all Megan Daniels and Nick Meister needed as the Delta Thistle/Langley duo avenged a previous loss to Carley Sandwith and Cameron de Jong to claim the BC Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Cranbrook on Sunday.

Having lost 10-5 to the Victoria pair in a matchup of the top two pool winners on Saturday, Daniels and Meister then downed Sarah Loken and Cody Tanaka of the Tunnel Town and Peace Arch Curling Clubs 8-5 in the semi-final.

In the championship matchup, Daniels and Meister scored four in the first end and added a three in the sixth to defeat Sandwith and de Jong 10-3.

A total of 16 teams competed in Cranbrook in the event which features two curlers, a male and female, playing with six rocks in a unique eight-end format. It was similar to the one which debuted at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, in which Canadians John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes captured gold medals.

Daniels and Meister now advance to the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship in Leduc, Alta., from March 29-April 1.
