Ice Maker/ Bar Manager, Trail Curling Club

Starting in the fall of 2024, the Trail Curling Club is in need of a certified Ice Maker/Bar Manager.

The Trail Curling Club is the only 8 sheet Curling Club in the Kootenay region of BC.

This job is a 6.5 month seasonal (mid-September to March 31st) contract, with remuneration based on experience and certificates. First Aid and Serve it Right are also required, with training available for any certificates needed. Delta Thistle Curling Club

The Delta Thistle Curling Club (DTCC) celebrated fifty years of being a community space that services and connects the community of North Delta.  The club offers six sheets of ice, various curling leagues, a pro-shop, and lounge.

Job Description

The DTCC Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations. Working closely with staff, board members, and key volunteers, the Manager will develop strategies, implement tactics, and support programming to meet the needs of the organization, and community. An ability to use ethical and conflict management process when dealing with sensitive issues is important in this position. Part of the Manager’s responsibilities require being available on evenings, and weekends.

Major Areas of Responsibility

 Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the club, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
  • Develop and implement club policies and procedures to ensure a safe and welcoming environment
  • Manage and supervise club staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling
  • Inventory management for the lounge and pro-shop
  • Manage administrative tasks such as payroll, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Lead organizational communication and marketing campaigns

 Member Services and Programming

  • Provide excellent customer service to club members and guests, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Registration management and reporting
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract new members and retain existing ones through collaboration with community partners such as Delta Parks and Recreation and Curl BC.
  • Develop strategies for the growth of revenue streams inclusive of private ice rentals, Pro-Shop inventory, and practice ice rentals.
  • Assist with DTCC social activities and events such as bonspiels, curling clinics, try-learn-play initiatives.

Qualifications:

 Ideally, candidates will have the following:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ previous experience in sport or hospitality management;
  • Experience with the operation of governance of non-profit societies, including working with non-profit boards and volunteers;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and organizational abilities, with a strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize competing priorities, and meet multiple deadlines;
  • Strong administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, online registration software, video/web conferencing tools, project management software, and database management;
  • Good fiscal acumen for budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Basic communication and marketing knowledge

Other Assets:

  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Financial literacy
  • Knowledge of the sport of curling
  • Event management experience
  • A degree or related diploma or other education in the field of business or sport management

Reporting:

 This position reports directly to the Delta Thistle Curling Club President.

Remuneration:

This is a salaried full-time position with competitive compensation based on a yearly 9-month term contract. For 2023/2024, upon a prospective start date, this salary will be pro-rated with the additional provision of free curling memberships for the manager and their family.
