Canadian Masters Championship Pool play begins

Round robin play at the 2018 Coastland Engineering and Surveying Canadian Masters Curling Championship came to a close this morning, and the competition’s Championship and Seeding Pools have been determined.

 Teams in the men’s and women’s Championship Pools will be competing for the chance to advance to the semifinal games on Saturday April 7. The bronze and gold medal games are on Sunday April 8.

In the men’s tournament, the top four teams in each pool move on to the Championship Pool and the bottom three teams in each pool move on to the Seeding Pool. In the women’s tournament, the top four teams in each pool move on to the Championship Pool and the bottom two teams in each pool move on to the Seeding Pool.

Alberta’s men’s team led Pool A with six wins, being the only undefeated team in the men’s round robin. They will be joined in the Championship Pool by the winners of Pool B, Ontario, as well as by British Columbia-H, Manitoba, British Columbia, Yukon, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick.

Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Northern Ontario and Northwest Territories will make up the men’s Seeding Pool.

Saskatchewan’s women’s team and British Columbia’s women’s team both went undefeated in round robin play, topping their respective pools with five wins each. They will be joined in the Championship Pool by Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Alberta and Northern Ontario.

Quebec, New Brunswick, Yukon, and Newfoundland and Labrador will make up the women’s Seeding Pool. Seeding Pool play began today at 2:00pm and Championship Pool play will begin today at 7:00pm at both Cloverdale Curling Club and Peace Arch Curling Centre.
