Boston Pizza Juniors start and final women’s teams in BC Scotties playdowns

The 2018 Boston Pizza BC Junior Curling Championships is set to begin in Langley on Monday.

The championship will see eight U21 junior men’s teams and eight U21 junior women’s teams play against each other in an eight-team round robin with a four-team page playoff. The scores will be updated at http://playdowns.curlbc.ca. The event runs from Dec. 18-23.

The junior women’s finals and the junior men’s finals will be livestreamed on Curl BC TV (https://sportscanada.tv/curlbc) on Dec. 23. To see the broadcast schedule, please visit https://www.curlbc.ca/communications/tv-schedules/.

The event will see the return of Team Tardi, representing Langley and Royal City curling clubs, who were last year’s BC junior men’s champions and went on to win gold at nationals. They narrowly missed out on a medal at worlds in South Korea.

Tickets ($25 for an event pass, $7 for a day pass, $3 for a draw pass) for the Langley event will be on sale at the club, based at 20699 42 Avenue.

BERTHS

Three berths were awarded at playdowns at Gibsons Curling Club at the start of December, with two junior women’s teams and one junior men’s team taking the spots.

Five berths were awarded at playdowns at Osoyoos Curling Club in November, with two junior women’s teams and three junior men’s teams clinching spots.

Eight other teams earned berths earlier in November because they earned the most points on the BC Junior Curling Tour. Teams were able to take part in a total of five BC Junior Curling Tour events held across the province. Points were awarded at each event.

EXTRA ENDS

The final three berths for the 2018 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western, will be awarded at playdowns this weekend at Kelowna Curling Club.

The playdowns started today and will wrap up on Sunday, Dec. 17.

Once complete, the final field for the BC Scotties will be known. The championship takes place at Victoria Curling Club from Jan. 2-7, 2018, and will see eight teams vying for the chance to represent BC at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian Women’s Curling Championship in Penticton.

Scores from the playdowns will be available at http://playdowns.curlbc.ca.
