Board candidates will run for three positions at Curl BC AGM

Three positions on the Curl BC Board will be up for grabs at the 2018 Curl BC Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 17 in Burnaby. The Curl BC membership will be electing two Governors at Large for 2-year terms and one Governor at Large for a 1-year position. These Governors at Large will join six current Governors to form a nine-person Board for the 2018/19 season.

The third position came open when current Governor at Large Michelle Ramsay recently announced that she will be stepping down mid-term from her position due to family and work commitments. Curl BC would like to give a big thank you to Michelle for all of the work she has done over the past two years to help support and grow curling in BC. Michelle will remain on the Board until the AGM, at which point the election for the one-year Governor at Large position will fill her position.

Four candidates will be running for these three positions. The top two vote getters will be elected for the two 2-year terms unless there is a tie for second place. In this case, there would need to be another election to break the tie which would only include the candidates who are tied for second.

Once the two 2-year term positions are confirmed, the remaining three candidates will be able to run for the one-year position if they so choose.

Information about the four candidates has been sent to member curling centres, and the deadline for submission of candidacy has now passed.

Current Curl BC Board Vice-Chair Peter Muir of Port Moody and Governor at Large Janice Mori of Coldstream have both been nominated by the Board and member clubs. Brent Pierce of New Westminster and Keith Switzer of Vancouver are the other two individuals who have been nominated by member clubs. Candidate Marilyn Kraeker of Victoria had to withdraw her submission of candidacy due to upcoming knee surgery.

Many thanks to Curl BC Chair, Paul Addison, and Curl BC Past Chair, Terry Vandale, who did such a great job of assembling such a strong group of candidates for next year’s Board.
