Local Sport Development funding available

2010 Legacies Now is dedicated to strengthening arts, literacy, sport and recreation, physical activity, accessibility and volunteerism in communities throughout BC. The Local Sport Program Development Fund will provide up to $2,500 to support new sport participation opportunities initiated in BC communities. Applications are now being accepted for the second round of funding. Submissions that were not funded in the first intake period will automatically be considered in January. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2009. Applications may be submitted, individually or in partnership, by community sport organizations, municipalities, or Aboriginal communities. Program Guidelines are available on the 2010 Legacies Now website at http://www.2010legaciesnow.com/local_sport_development_fund/

 

The Local Sport Development Fund is supported by the Province of BC through the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport.

2009 Provincial Junior Champions

Congratulations to the two teams that qualified for the 2009  M&M Canadian Junior Championships!

On the Junior Men’s side, Team Kedziora from the Golden Ears Winter Club beat Team Kopf from the Royal City Curling Club 9-4 in the finals. Team Kedziora is skipped by Bryan Kedziora, with third Derek Errington, second Cal Jackson, lead Tyler MacKenzie and coach Bill Tschirhart.

On the Junior Women’s side, Team Shimizu from Richmond Curling Club played against Team Sivertson from the Victoria Curling Club, winning the final 10-4. Skipping was Kelly Shimizu, playing third was Kayte Gyles, second Janelle Sakamoto, lead Julianna Tsang and coach Victor Shimizu.

Good luck to both teams at the Canadians in Salmon Arm January 31 – Feburuary 8, 2009.

Have-A-Go Day in Langley – Nov. 29th, 2008

The event is scheduled November 29th from 12-3pm and is led by National Team Skip  Darryl Neighbour. Come try this sport in a welcoming, non-competitive environment geared toward new participants. You just come and have Fun!

BC150 Volunteer Incentive Program

This new grant honours volunteers and the contribution they make to British Columbia. BC150 VIP will recognize 30,000 eligible British Columbian volunteers who donate their time to a charitable event with a $50 donation in their name. The program will run until Dec. 31, 2009. [Read more…]

Catch Wheelchair Curling on Shaw tonight

Shaw TV visited the Victoria Curling Club to tape Corinne Jensen and her group of wheelchair curlers during a Trial Opportunity held on Sunday September 28th. Darryl Neighbour (National Team Skip) and Gary Cormack (Gold Medal Olympian) instructed a group of new curlers.  Shaw TV (Vancouver Island) will air the tape on Channel 11 tonight and tomorrow night at 6pm. Don’t miss it!
