2024 BC Men’s and Women’s Championships – Wrap-up

January 30, 2024

Schneider and Grandy Crowned 2024 BC Men’s & Women’s Curling Champions

After an intense week of competition in Esquimalt, the 2024 BC Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships witnessed the triumph of familiar faces as Team Grandy and Team Schneider emerged victorious, earning the honor to represent British Columbia at the national Brier and Scotties.

In the Final of the 2024 BC Scotties Women’s Curling Championship Final, presented by Best Western, Team Grandy, hailing from Vancouver, faced off against Team Brown from Kamloops. Grandy dominated the game, securing a commanding 7-1 lead after three ends, ultimately claiming victory with a final score of 11-3. Skip Clancy Grandy expressed her elation, stating, “It feels amazing. I’m really proud of the team for what we put together this week.” Grandy’s team, unbeaten in the Championship, will now prepare for the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary, Alberta, from February 16-25. After the Championships, it was announced that Team Brown have also qualified the Scotties, by being one of the highest-placed teams in the 2023-24 CTRS standings that didn’t win the respective provincial or territorial championships.

In the 2024 BC Men’s Curling Championships Final, Team Schneider faced off against fellow Victoria Curling Club representatives Team Montgomery in a cautious start. Team Schneider secured the championship with a 5-3 victory, breaking the deadlock in the 6th end and maintaining their momentum. Skip Catlin Schneider reflected on their journey, saying, “It means a lot to be able to qualify for the Brier to be hosted in my hometown, Regina.”

Team Schneider overcame a challenging route to victory, bouncing back from a heartbreaking loss to Team Richard in the A Qualifier Final. Their redemption journey included a win in the B Qualifier over Team de Jong and a crucial victory in the A vs B Qualifier. Team Schneider will represent B.C. at the 2024 Montana’s Brier in Regina, Saskatchewan, from March 1-10.
