2019 BC Men’s and Women’s Championships start Tuesday in Quesnel

The ice is ready, the teams have arrived, and the city of Quesnel is ready for the competition to begin at the 2019 BC Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships.

The two events are taking place simultaneously at the West Fraser Centre over the next six days. Teams are coming together for the opening banquet Monday night, but the curling action starts on Tuesday January 29 at 9:00am PT.

“We are very excited to have the 2019 BC Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships finally get underway in Quesnel,” said Curl BC Competitions Manager Will Sutton. “There have been many hours of preparation put into these two competitions and the host committee, the volunteers and the City of Quesnel have done a fantastic job putting together a first-rate event.”

The 2019 BC Men’s Curling Championship, presented by Barkerville Historic Town & Park and Nufloors, features 12 teams vying for a chance to represent the province at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier, which is taking place March 2 to 10 in Brandon, Manitoba.

The 2019 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western and Nufloors, features eight teams competing for a chance to represent BC at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, which is taking place February 16 to 24 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The defending champions from both events are returning to the competition. Abbotsford’s Team Geall won the 2018 BC Men’s Championship and Nanaimo, Parksville and Vancouver’s Team Van Osch won the 2018 Scotties BC Women’s Championship.

Draws will take place each day at 9:00am, 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Tuesday’s last draw will be bumped back to 7:30pm to allow for the Opening Ceremonies, which begin at 6:15pm.

The men’s final will be taking place at 10:00am PT on February 3, with the women’s final following on the same day at 2:00pm PT. Both finals, as well as the men’s semifinal and the women’s 3-4 page game, will be livestreamed on cbcsports.ca and broadcast on Shaw Spotlight.

Live scores and schedules will be available at playdowns.curlbc.ca. More information, including ticket prices and rosters, can be found at quesnel2019.curlbc.ca.
