Join us for a Summer Warm Up!

Curl BC will be taking part in a Sport BC Summer Warm Up event at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday July 1 to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. What better way to celebrate our nation than to enjoy one of the country’s most beloved sports? Kids and adults alike will be able to try floor curling and learn more about the sport as it is played on the ice by talking to one of our volunteers.

Two fantastic grant opportunities for curling centres

Two fantastic grant opportunities are available for clubs that would like to get funding for senior programs or improve their accessibility.

The deadline for the New Horizons for Seniors Program is June 23 so apply as soon as possible!

The New Horizons for Seniors Program can provide up to $25,000 per centre and is for projects at your curling centre that are led or inspired by seniors and address one or more of the following five program objectives:

  • promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations;
  • engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others;
  • expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse;
  • supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors; and
    providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors.

Visit https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding/new-horizons-seniors-community-based.html for more details or to apply.

There is also a great opportunity to make improvements at your curling centre through the Enabling Accessibility Fund. The deadline for this is July 26.

Examples of Community Accessibility Stream projects:

  • installing an access ramp and automated door openers to enable the access of people with disabilities to the main entrance of a church.
  • enhancing lighting in a recreational centre, to accommodate people with low vision;
    replacing doorknobs that are difficult to grasp and turn with accessible levered handles and installing accessible washrooms in a local tourist information office;
  • installing appropriate signage, tactile cues, and painting baseboards and door frames in a community hall with contrasting colours for individuals with visual impairments;

Visit https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding/enabling-accessibility-fund.html for details or to apply.
