2015 Tim Hortons BC Juvenile Curling Championships about to start

Cowichan Lake will host the province’s curling stars of the future from March 5-8 when the 2015 Tim Hortons BC Juvenile Curling Championships get underway.

Eight boy’s and eight girl’s teams from across BC qualified through regional playdowns and will now compete to be crowned the best in BC. The winners will go on to represent the province at the Optimist U18 International Juvenile Curling Championships in Edmonton from April 1 -5.

The event offers the chance to see some of the province’s finest young curlers compete including the 2014 BC Winter Games champions Team Carpenter and Jaelyn Cotter, the daughter of Jim Cotter who is currently representing BC at the Brier.

Previous BC Juvenile Champions include Sarah Daniels, who is currently skipping Team BC at the Canada Winter Games, Team Brown who won the 2013 Canadian Junior title and several BC Scotties and Men’s Championship competitors.

The Chair of the event host committee, Linda Blatchford, said: “Cowichan Lake Recreation, in partnership with the Cowichan Rocks Curling Club, is excited to welcome BC’s best young curlers to our facility and to the Cowichan Lake area.

“We hope that curlers enjoy their 2015 Tim Hortons BC Juveniles Curling Championship experience and that they leave our community with lasting good memories. We encourage curling fans to join us as spectators in the hopes that they may see a future Brier or Scotties star!”

Spectator entry to the event is free and there will be copies of the draw schedule available, as well as programs for sale.

The event, which sees the teams divided into two pools, runs from Thursday, March 5 until Sunday, March 8. The semi-finals will take place at 4.30pm on Saturday and the finals will be at 11am on Sunday. To follow the results online, visit www.playdowns.com/curlbc
