Funding Opportunity: Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund

The Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) is a new, two year national program that will invest $150 million into improving existing community infrastructure across Canada. Western Economic Diversification will invest over $46 million under CIIF into Western Canada. Not-profit organizations are eligible to apply for funding to improvement of existing community infrastructure, including community centres and recreational facilities.

In order to be eligible to apply at least 50% of the total eligible project costs must come from other sources than the federal government and all work must be completed prior to March 31, 2014.

Applicants seeking less than $250,000 in funding from CIIF will receive priority.

The application deadline is August 2, 2012*

*There will be a second intake period in November if funding is available

Rebecca Connop Price joins Curl BC as Communications and Marketing Manager

Curl BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca Connop Price as its new Communications and Marketing Manager.

Rebecca, originally from Smithers, joins the association after more than eight years working as a journalist in BC and overseas.

Rebecca will compile, design and help distribute the annual yearbook and monthly Curling Connection newsletter. She will also be responsible for content on Curl BC’s website and social media outlets in addition to producing all media releases.

She will take up the position on August 7.

Funding Available for Multicultural Projects

$750,000 available for non-profit societies and community-based organizations for “Multiculturalism” projects

To promote the participation and engagement of all cultures across the province, the Province of British Columbia will support communities in honouring the diverse cultures that shape British Columbia through the Multiculturalism Grant Program and through EmbraceBC Program Funding. Grants to a maximum of $5,000 are available in two streams: (A) Cultural Expression and (B) Capacity Building.

Job Location: Our office is located in the Sport BC Building in Richmond (#293-3820 Cessna Drive), however, we will be moving locations in April 2013 to the Burnaby Lake area.

Position Description:

Reporting to the CEO, the Administration Assistant will be the lead on office administration duties, supporting all staff.

A team player, the Administrative Assistant will be a self-starter, have excellent computer, organizational and listening skills, and pay close attention to detail. They will also have strong and personable communication skills. Event planning skills are also beneficial to this position.

Creston, Prince George and Vancouver awarded 2014 BC Masters’, Women’s & Men’s Curling Championships

Curl BC is pleased to announce that the Creston, Prince George and Vancouver Curling Clubs will be hosting three of the province’s BC championships in 2014.

The Creston Curling Club will host the 2014 BC Master (60+) Curling Championships from March 6-9, 2014.

The top eight master men’s and women’s teams in BC will battle for the titles and berths into the Canadian Master Curling Championships. The BC Championships will begin with two pools of four, with the top two in each pool advancing to semi-finals.

The BC Master Curling Championships have produced 2 national master championship teams skipped by Rick Pughe from Royal City in 2008 and Garry Gelowitz from Kelowna in 2011. Richmond’s Karin Host team has recently won two national silver medals in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons.

The 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts BC Women’s Curling Championship presented by Best Western has been awarded to the Prince George Golf & Curling Club. This event will run from January 6-12, 2014 [Read more…]
