Curl BC Rockslide Summer Curling Camp for Juniors an Overall Success

August 25, 2011

One week ago today the Curl BC Inaugural Rockslide Summer Curling
Camp for Junior curlers was underway! Overall the camp was a resounding
success!

We were thrilled to host the camp with the assistance of the Vernon Curling
Club and the City of Vernon who provided facilities, food and 5 sheets of ice
for the camp. Curl BC’s provincial coach, regional coaches and assistant regional
coaches were on hand to coach the athletes and mentor four up-and-coming
young coaches, who themselves encouraged and coached the junior curlers at the
camp. Everyone contributed to helpful and informative in-class sessions, amazing
on-ice learning, drills and game play opportunities as well as team building and
fitness testing.

Thanks to Goldline for outfitting the campers and coaches. Thanks to Duncanby
Lodge and the CCA for providing goods to the online auction that helped fund this
camp. To Team Scott and guest instructor Jim Cotter who both joined us to share
their experiences and motivate everyone at the camp; thank you!

Thanks to the campers for registering and giving 100% to every session over the four days.

It will ensure that future generations of curlers benefit from this shared legacy to local curling, and allow them to enjoy the same rewards that curling has provided to you.

Rockslide Curling Camp hits the Okanagan this weekend

The Curl BC Rockslide Summer Curling Camp will be hitting the Okanagan in Vernon this weekend from August 18-21. 50 junior athletes between the ages of 11-19 will be visiting the city to work with some of BC’s top coaches (led by Curl BC Provincial Coach & Olympic Bronze Medalist, Melissa Soligo) to enhance their skills on and off the ice.

This is the first year for the summer camp, but with a keen interest from beginner to high performance junior curlers across the province its future looks promising.

In addition to the camp, a Championship Ice Making course is hosting 26 ice technicians from BC & Alberta from August 15-17, who will take back their newly acquired tricks of the trade to their local curling centres. Internationally renowned ice technician Dave Merklinger will be leading the course.

A Competition Coach course is also taking place where 8 coaches will become certified to coach competitive curling teams; and for those more interested in soaking up the sun while supporting a good cause, the Sandra Schmirler Foundation Charity Golf Tournament – Okanagan will be held in Kelowna from the 19th – 21st .
