Curl BC launches discussion forums

Curl BC is happy to announce a new service to its members. Available immediately, Curl BC members can now connect with other curling participants, staff and volunteers across the province through online discussion forums. These forums are intended to allow members a place to communicate and share information that will facilitate the growth, development and operations of curling in BC.

The vision behind this tool is to further open the lines of communication between curling centres, as well as curling centres and Curl BC. Topics such as bonspiel dates, operations, funding, and regional specific items are all encouraged to be discussed in a respectful and pro-active manner. It is hoped that this will aid members in being able to “stop re-inventing the wheel” and make resources and knowledge more accessible.

The forums are available for viewing by anyone, but those wishing to contribute to the discussions must register for an account and sign each posting with their real name. Anonymous posted will not be permitted.

The Curl BC dicussion forums can be accessed by clicking here, or by clicking the blue icon on top of the Curl BC homepage next to the search box. [Read more…]

Parksville awarded 2012 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship with new championship format

Curl BC is pleased to announce that the 2012 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship has been awarded to the Parksville Curling Club. This event will run from February 8-12, 2012.

For the first time in its history, the Championship will follow a 16-team triple knockout with a 4-team page playoff format; a change from previous years’ 10-team round-robin with page playoff formats.

This change comes as a result of an on-going playdown review being conducted by Curl BC to ensure that all respective playdowns meet the needs of the changing face of curling in BC. This change will only apply to the BC Men’s playdowns, therefore the 2012 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship presented by Best Western will remain a 10-team round-round with page playoff format.
