Curl BC Curling for Life Endowment Fund

Curl BC is very pleased to announce the establishment of the Curl BC Curling for Life Endowment Fund. This fund will support the long-term sustainability of curling in British Columbia. This initiative to move Curl BC towards a more stable financial income was introduced by Scott Braley, Curl BC Executive Director & CEO, and put into action by Jim Mann, Curl BC President.

The Curl BC Executive Committee responded to last year’s major cuts from our funding partners as a “call to arms” to advance Curl BC’s strategic goal of diversifying its funding sources, to ensure the stability of curling programs and the growth of the sport for years to come. Over time, The Curling for Life Endowment Fund will allow for Curl BC to generate its own significant source of revenue, becoming less reliant on outside funding partners.

The endowment is similar to a permanent savings account. The fund grows over time and each year a portion of the income (generated from interest) is available for distribution to Curl BC. [Read more…]

Risk Management Guide for Community Sport Organizations

Rachel Corbett and Dina Bell-Laroche from the Centre for Sport and Law have written a great practical resource guide for sport organizations. Over 100 pages long, the Guide represents a summary of our work on risk management in the sport community from over the last 20 years. In particular, the Guide consolidates our learnings from the Risk Management Project – a True Sport-funded initiative managed by the Centre for Sport and Law from 2007 to the present. The Guide also contains almost 20 different appendices of useful tools and tips.

To obtain your free copy – click here – and scroll slightly down the page. You will be asked to register with 2010 Legacies Now but the twenty seconds it takes to register is well worth the final result. Feel free to pass along this email to others who may find the Guide useful.
