Call for Applications: 2010/11 Girls Only Incentive Program

Coaches Week starts Sept. 18th

From September 18th – 25th the Coaching Association of BC will be hosting its 4th annual “BC Coaches Week” in locations across the province.

To kick off the week, the Coaches Association of BC will be hosting a one day coaching conference in Vancouver at SFU Harbour Centre on Saturday, September 18th. This conference is being offered in conjunction with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and will bring together some of BC’s, and Canada’s, top sport psychologists to present 5 unique sessions.

Sept. 18th is Sports Day in Canada

On September 18th, Canadians will be celebrating Sports Day in Canada and we think that all curling clubs should be part of it. So step up and join thousands of other local groups in planning an event, festival, open house, etc.

Enabling Accessibility Fund: Grant deadline September 10th

The Enabling Accessibility Fund provides grants of up to $75,000 for projects to renovate, construct and retrofit buildings; modify vehicles for community use; and provide accessible information or communication technologies. Click here to see if your Curling Club is eligible. The deadline is September 10th.

The Dominion Curling Club Championship updates eligibility rules

The Dominion General Insurance Company of Canada has announced some changes to the eligibility requirements for The Dominion Curling Club Championship and all provincial and regional events leading to the national championship. Club Coach / Instructor Update


Thanks to the support of the Investors Group and the Coaching Association of Canada, Curl BC will be hosting a workshop for community coaches and instructors. This day will be a chance for club coaches and/or instructors to become updated on the latest techniques for teaching curling delivery skills and to network with other coaches/instructors in the area. This conference is ideal for those volunteers within your club that instruct your novice and intermediate clinics or run the junior programs. It is meant as an update for those who have taken a coaching course in the past, not as a replacement for taking an NCCP coaching course.

Date – September 19th
Time – 1-4pm
Location – Port Moody Curling Club (300 Ioco Rd, Port Moody)
Cost – $5 per person
Please bring your curling equipment

Canada Winter Games registration closes Aug 31st

Registration for the Canada Winter Games Backdoor Qualifier closes August 31st.

Teams who wish to enter must meet the following criteria:

competitiors shall be a maximum of 17 years of age on December 31, 2010

Year of birth – any athlete born on and since January 1, 1993

Coaches named on the official registration form must be fully certified under the National Coaching Certification Program to at least Level 2. (Requiremetns for coaching at the Canada Winter Games is a fully certified Level 3). If the coach of the winning team is not fully certified to this level, a level 3 coach, appointed by Curl BC, will immediately be named to replace the current coach

The Backdoor Competition will be held:

October 22-24, 2010
Cloverdale Curling Club
Registration deadline – August 31, 2010
Entry Fee $200 plus HST

If the original team lineup is eligible for the BC Juvenile playdowns in January of 2011, the team will be credited for the amount of $200 on the entry

Format – modified double knockout

The team that wins this competition will go on to play the top 3 teams from the 2010 BC Winter Games Nov. 5-7, 2010 at the Vernon Curling Club to see who will represent BC at the Canada Winter Games.
