Canadian Curling Association AGM

OTTAWA, June 25, 2009…The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) was held in Gatineau, Quebec on Saturday, June 20.

The CCA is pleased to report that, for a second consecutive year, it will finish the fiscal year well in the black, with a continued positive financial outlook. The Association tabled a financial surplus for the 2008-09 year of $879,692, resulting in a total accumulated surplus of $1,703,952, almost all of which has been allocated to the CCA’s long-term reserve fund.

Women’s Provincials to be 10 Teams

At the Curl BC Board Meeting on June 5, 2009 a recommendation was accepted to change the Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship to a 10-team format with a page playoff for the 2010 season. The additional two teams will be the previous year’s champion and the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points leader as of December 1, 2009. 

The 2009 Champions, Team Mallett – Marla Mallet, Grace MacInnes, Diane Gushulak and Jacalyn Brown, coached by Ken MacDonald, have therefore already earned their place in the event.

Bonspiel & Playdown Calendars Now Online

The 2009/ 2010 Bonspiel Calendar is now posted online. More dates will be posted as received.


The 2009/2010 Playdown Schedule is also available, dates are subject to change. Registration will open July 13, 2009.


2015 Canada Winter Games Sports Selected

(June 15, 2009) Ottawa – The Canada Games Council (CGC) is pleased to announce the final sports and disciplines selected for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, to be hosted in British Columbia.

“The Canada Games are important to the development of Canadian sport, and thus have evolved to the size where more sports vie for inclusion than any specific Games could possibly include,” says Sue Hylland President and CEO of the Canada Games Council.

Reminder that the Curl BC AGM is being held this Saturday June 6th at Richmond Curling Club.

The AGM will run from 1-3pm followed by a wine and cheese.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • 2008-2009 Year in Review
  • Recognition of our athletes, sponsors and volunteers
  • Approval of Financial Statements
  • Presentation of 2009-2013 Budget
  • Presentation of 2009-2013 Strategic Plan
  • Youth Curling initiatives

Looking for Learning Facilitators in the North and the Interior

Curl BC is accepting applications for Learning Facilitators living in the North or Interior.

Learning Facilitators (LF) are selected based on their demonstrated skill teaching and facilitating workshops. The positions are for a one-year term, renewable annually upon the recommendation of the Master Learning Facilitator and the Executive Director. Assessments (reviews) are done to ensure the instructors continue to meet the needs of the technical program. Training for the first year will be under the supervision of a Master Learning Facilitator or an experienced Learning Facilitator.

Coaching (NCCP) Certification Requirements:
Minimum Level 2 Certified; Prefer Level 3 Technical
