BC’s Mallett Rink Leading 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Heading into the final day at the 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, BC’s Mallett rink leads the field with a 8-2 record, qualifying them for the playoffs this weekend.

The rink, comprised of Marla Mallett, Grace MacInnes, Diane Gushulak and Jacalyn Brown, is playing for a spot at the 2009 World Championships in Gangneung, Korea.

Royal City’s Geall Rink 2009 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Champions

With an exciting finish to the 2009 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship, Royal City’s Sean Geall and his rink won the title in 11 ends over the Peachey rink, also from Royal City.

The 8-7 victory by Geall, featured many crucial shots. The Peachey rink scored 2 with their last rock in the 10th end to force the extra end. In the extra end, Sean Geall, did not have to throw his last rock after the Peachey stone slid to far.  The Geall rink will now represent BC at the 2009 Tim Horton’s Brier in Calgary. [Read more…]

BC Athlete Survey

BC Athlete Voice have developed a new survey to enable athletes to share their feedback and experiences in sport through a formal mechanism – the BC Athlete Survey.

The BC Athlete Survey is open to all athletes living and training in BC and is easy to complete online at the BC Athlete Voice website until Friday 20th February.

The survey is designed for athletes to share their voice in a positive way to ensure we continue to move forward supporting the positive work being undertaken in the sport system. The information from the survey will also support the feedback collated through the recent Athlete Community Forums. If you are interested in the Athlete Community Feedback you can also access this at www.bcathletevoice.ca.

Fields Set for 2009 Juvenile Boys’ & Girls’ BC Curling Championships

Following playdowns, the fields are just about set for the 2009 Juvenile Boys’ BC Curling Championship & 2009 Juvenile Girls’ BC Curling Championship. Both championships take place in Winfield at the Winfield Curling Club, March 15 – 19. [Read more…]

Fields Set for 2009 Senior Men’s & Women’s BC Curling Championships

Following playdowns the fields are set for the 2009 Senior Men’s BC Curling Championship & 2009 Senior Women’s BC Curling Championship. Both championships take place in Surrey at the Cloverdale Curling Club, February 24 – March 1.

Curl BC Hires Participation Manager

Curl BC is pleased to announce that Penny Bartel has been hired in the position of Participation Manager for Curl BC. Bartel will be responsible for member services including insurance, club operations and the recreational curler’s program. Information on Pending Infrastruture Projects Required

The federal budget that was announced includes a $500 million fund devoted to sport and recreation infrastructure to renew and build facilities in our communities. We expect that the federal government will be flooded with individual requests.

Sport BC is looking to table a collection of “shovel-ready” infrastructure projects to the government on behalf of our membership by the end of February. [Read more…]

2009 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Curling Championships Underway in Salmon Arm

Team Ursel wins Karuizawa International Curling Championship

Congratulations to the Ursel Rink on winning the 2009 Karuizawa International Curling Championship this past weekend in Japan. Canada defeated the host team Japan in the semi-finals 12-3 and China 9-6 to capture the title. [Read more…]
