The final four playoff places have been secured at the conclusion of round robin play at the 2016 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western.
Leading for most of the event, Team Thompson from Kamloops slipped into second place today, the final day of round robin play, losing both of their games. But the team of skip Karla Thompson, third Kristen Recksiedler, second Tracey Lavery, lead Trysta Vandale and coach Jeff Richard still posted an impressive 5-2 record.
Securing first place is six-time BC champion Kelly Scott. Her Kelowna team of third Shannon Aleksic, second Jenna Loder and lead Sarah Pyke went 6-1, winning their final round robin game against Team Thompson by stealing a point in the extra end.
Team Scott and Thompson will face off again in the page 1 vs 2 playoff, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m., with the winner getting a bye to the final.
In third place, with a 4-3 record is Diane Gushulak’s Royal City rink of skip Gushulak, third Grace MacInnes, second Jessie Sanderson, lead Sandra Comadina and coach Neil Houston. They will play against fourth-placed team Team Wark in the page 3 vs 4 playoff. Sarah Wark’s Victoria Curling Centre rink features Wark, third Simone Brosseau, second Michelle Allen and lead Rachelle Kallechy.
The page 3 vs 4 playoff takes place tomorrow (Saturday, Jan 23) at 7:30 p.m. with the winner facing the loser of the page 1 vs 2 playoffs in the semi finals.
The semi final will air at 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 24, on Sportsnet Pacific, and the final will air at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, on Sportsnet One.
The winning team will represent B.C. at the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian Women’s Curling Championship in Grand Prairie from February 18-20.
