Qualicum Beach will be playing host to the province’s best mixed curlers from March 3-6 when the 2016 AMJ Campbell BC Mixed Curling Championship gets underway.
Eight teams of curlers from across the province will be vying for the opportunity to represent B.C. at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in November 2016.
Regional playdowns took place in Cranbrook, Ashcroft, Terrace, Cowichan and Delta (Tunnel Town) to decide who would represent each region at the provincial championship.
Teams are made up of a two male and two female curlers playing an 8-end game of curling. The event is an eight-team triple knockout.
The first draw at the Qualicum and District Curling Club gets underway at 1:30pm on Thursday, March 3, with the final scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, March 6.
The Mixed roster includes three-time BC Senior Curling Champion, Wes Craig, from Shawnigan Lake, who has also won the BC Mixed title twice. He is playing with his son Miles Craig and Kesa and Marika Van Osch of Nanaimo. Kesa won the BC Junior Women’s title in 2012 and the BC Women’s title in 2014 and Marika won junior titles in 2012, 2014 and 2016, including two silver medals at nationals. Also on the roster is 2013 and 2015 BC Junior Women’s Curling Champion, Corryn Brown and Erin Pincott, who will be playing with Darren Nelson and Russ Koffski of Kamloops. Three-time BC Mixed champion Tom Buchy, of Kimberley, is also on the roster, with his team of Lori Buchy and Dave and Robyn Toffolo.
