2012 Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships

The 2012 Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships are being held at the Victoria Curling Club from Dec. 27-30. Teams will compete in an 8-team round-robin, with the top 3 advancing to playoffs.

Line-up complete for 2012 BC Scotties Curling Championship

The Chilliwack Curling Club hosted the last of four open qualifying events into the 2012 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship presented by Best Western this past weekend.

Marilou Richter’s Richmond team of Darah Provencal, Michelle Ramsay, Sandra Comadina, Christine Jurgenson and Coach, Sharon Morrison defeated Langley’s Leanne Andrews in the A Event final to advance to the BC Championship. Andrews then fell 9-8 to Marla Mallett and her Royal City team of Kelly Shimizu, Danielle Callens, Barb Zbeetnoff, Stephanie Jackson and Coach, Brian Gessner in the B Event final.

Men’s & women’s BC curling qualifiers continue this weekend

Qualifiers continue this weekend for berths into the 2012 BC Men’s & Women’s Curling Championships.

10 men’s teams will compete for 2 berths into the 2012 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship presented by DundeeWealth, in Parksville Feb 6-12, 2012. Action started this morning at the Vancouver Island playdown in Campbell River and will continue through to Sunday night.

Meanwhile, 5 women’s teams will hit the ice tomorrow at the Chilliwack Curling Club in the last of four open qualifying events into the 2012 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, hosted at the North Shore Winter Club, January 23-29, 2012.

Seven different curling playdowns occurred over this past weekend with athletes competing in men’s, junior and juvenile categories.

New elementary school initiative announced

Curl BC is proud to announce a new elementary school program initiative.

SOAR (Sharing Our Activities and Resources) is a program created through a unique partnership between Curl BC, Tennis BC and the BC Golf Association. Funded by the BC Sport Agency, SOAR jointly delivers school sport programs to elementary school aged children in remote communities at a low cost to the participants. Children receive introductions to golf, tennis and curling at the “FUN-damentals” level in their school gyms. Teachers also receive instructions alongside their students, learning the skills to lead students in future PE classes. The three sections of the program include the Capital One Rocks & Rings Program, the Tennis for Schools Program and the Playground to Fairway Program. [Read more…]

2011 Equipment Grant Program

The Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) is launching a regionally based Equipment Grant Program that allows First Nations, Métis Chartered Communities and Aboriginal Friendships Centres across British Columbia to apply for funds to purchase sport, recreation and/or physical activity equipment. The equipment will be used by communities/organizations to promote healthy active lifestyles by reducing barriers and increasing access to sport, recreation and physical activity programs for the entire community – from children to elders.

The Equipment Grant Program will be delivered through each of the Partner Council’s six Regional Committees, inclusive of the Northwest, Northeast, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver Coastal and Vancouver Island. The Regional Committees will be responsible for evaluating the applications submitted by communities/organizations from within their region and awarding the grants. [Read more…]

Zones 3 & 4: Mission – 1 team advances in each category
Zone 5: North Shore Winter Club – 1 team advances in each category

The Regions 1 & 2 junior men’s playdown will take place at the Castlegar Curling Club with one team advancing to the 2012 Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships in Victoria, December 27-31.

2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup

LANGLEY, British Columbia, December 7, 2011…The World Financial Group Continental Cup, presented by Monsanto, will take place January 12-15, 2012 at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC.

This is the second year of title sponsorship by World Financial Group and the eighth edition of this unique international curling competition, featuring six teams from North America versus six teams representing The World in a variety of disciplines during the four days – Team Games, Mixed Doubles, Singles, Mixed Skins and Skins.

Each segment awards points for wins (or ties), with the first side to reach 201 points declared the winner. Currently, North America holds a 4-3 edge over Team World since the inaugural Continental Cup was contested in 2002 in Regina. The sides have alternated winning since the first edition. North America won in 2002, 2004 (in Medicine Hat), 2007 (in Medicine Hat) and 2011 (in St. Albert). Team World (then Team Europe) won in 2003 (in Thunder Bay), 2006 (in Chilliwack) and 2008 (in Camrose). There were no Continental Cups in 2005, 2009 and 2010. [Read more…]

Weekend BC curling results

The Osoyoos Curling Club hosted the Region 3, 4 & 7 Jr. Men’s Qualifier. Six teams competed for three spots into the Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships in Victoria from Dec. 27-31. The qualifiers were:

  • A Event: Kelowna – Skip: Brandon Emslie, Third: Derek Emslie, Second: John Fallis, Lead: Jordan Emslie, Coach: Dave Fallis
  • B Event: Kelowna – Skip: Justin Nillson, Third: Dylan Tyre, Second: James Walker, Lead: Mitchell Sheridan, Coach: Jock Tyre
  • C Event: Kamloops – Skip: Brooke Calibaba, Third: Spencer Holden, Second: Kael Kristjanson, Lead: Alex Nicholson, Fifth: Braden Krenz, Coach: Gailya Wasylik
